“I don’t love pancakes,” Mister tells my mother at our weekly Sunday breakfast.

“I don’t love pajamas,” he tells me after his bath.

“I do love poopies,” he tells my husband during a diaper change.

Mister is throwing the word “love” around like a teenager. And I don’t love it.

What word do you notice others around you using too often? What word do you use too often yourself?

I think I use hyperbolic affirming words to much, like “awesome” or “outstanding” or “excellent.” Come to think of it… I talk a lot like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

The owner of my company overuses the word “excellent” like he’s Montgomery Burns. There are others on the management staff that overuse “thanks,” “sincerely,” “motivated,” “driven.” You could easily fill up a bingo card with their tired words.
