Writer’s group just ended early, so I get to browse the kids’ section of the bookstore before I go home. Of course, I go right for the picture books.
I browse a few titles. Then I find Herve Tullet’s superfun book Press Here and think that the author/illustrator must have a lot of fun. I move down the shelf to Knuffle Bunny. Mo Willems has to be very sarcastic. And Eric Carle really likes colors and wildlife.
Then I realize what I’m doing. I’m judging more than the book by the cover. I’m judging the author by the book. Uh oh. I wonder what my books will make readers think about me.
