“Down. Dowwwwwwwwwwwn,” Mister whines. He is in the “big pool” for the first time since last summer.
“I can’t put you down,” I explain. “You will go under the water. I have to hold you so I can keep you safe and you can breathe air.”
“Down,” he screams now.
“I can’t put you down. Why not?”
“Breathe air,” he repeats.
“That’s right. I have to keep you safe so you can breathe air.”
On the next visit to the pool, we’ll bring floaties.
It was my job to keep Mister’s head above water, but sometimes doing all of the stuff that helps me develop my writing craft makes me feel like I can’t keep my head above water. Reading all of the advice on writing, taking writing classes, going to conferences, reading what is in the market, and making time to write are all important but can get overwhelming. What has made you feel like you’re drowning in writing? How do you keep your head above water?
