Uh Oh Trick

23 Dec

There’s nothing like putting my writing out there to highlight the flaws. As soon as a piece goes public, lots of things seem wrong that were fine before. But, once its out there, I can’t go back and edit. So, what do I do?

Mister’s favorite phrase these days is “uh oh.” He says it after he drops something, before he drops something, and after he falls down. He says it when he’s doing something he knows he shouldn’t be, when I make a mistake, or when someone else drops something. But, no sooner has he uttered the words than has forgotten what happened and moved on. So, when I see a mistake I can’t fix. I try the “uh oh” trick.

I reread the mistake, write down my correction if it is really bothering me, say “uh oh” trick and move on. That doesn’t mean my inner critic won’t use it as ammunition later, but my conscious mind can forget about it.

What’s that old saying, “Every one is perfect?” Thank goodness, no.

If you are celebrating, Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah, Happy (?) Kwanzaa, Merry (?) Kwanzaa Solstice.
